Author Topic: Error starting Bonzai Engine on Linux Mint / crash (Read 2265 times)

I have just downloaded Bonzai Engine for the first time, but unfortunately it crashes when I try to run either the Editor or the Viewer - both crash immediately upon starting.

I am using a dual cpu intel laptop which does have other Java-based OpenGL software working (using LWJGL).

Bonzai engine looks really impressive in screenshots --- please let me know if I am doing something wrong -- or fix it so we can check it out ! :)

Thanks for your report. The crash happens in LWJGL library loading, which is internal to lwjgl and therefore looks like a bug in lwjgl. Can you tell me which version of LWJGL you usually uses in your lwjgl based app ? The version provided in bonzaiengine distribution is a 2.8.4 nightly build.

Can you try using the version of lwjgl you are usually using, you can do that by replacing from third-party folder the files: lwjgl.jar and all linux .so. If it does not works, it would be interesting to post the crash log in lwjgl forum.
I'll try to make some test on a linux machine too.

In the meantime, you may have more luck using jogl. To do that, extract bonzaiengine-tutorial archive from download section and run the installer. Then copy jogl folder from lib/third-party to third-party folder of bonzaiengine distribution (rename lwjgl to make sure it's not used) and run the viewer again.

Ps: to get around with the topic max posting limit, you can also attach the crash log file in the post attachment.

The version of LWJGL that I am using on my personal game project is Version: 2.8.3

And....thanks for the tip about the crash being in LWJGL itself -- I did what you suggested and copied the LWJGL jars and libs from my game copy into the Bonzai/third-party/lwjgl dir and Bonzai now runs successfully !

Let me know if you can use any more information for debugging,.. I will be happy to provide ....

That would be great if you can try with the viewer the 3 versions of lwjgl from this archive and let me know which one is working or when not to attach the crash log.

If none of the versions are working, this would be most likely a bug to report to lwjgl team.
